Selection as the 2007 Top Smart Card Reader Supplier in China

ACS received the 2007 “Top Smart Card Reader Supplier in China” award during the 10th International Smart Card and RFID Technology Exhibition and Purchase held in China in 2008. ACS stood out among the rest of the competitors vying for the SMART prize, which is the highest honour given in the Chinese smart card industry.    

Establishment of its branch office in Japan

 A new sales and support office was opened in Tokyo, Japan to enable ACS to penetrate the Japanese market better and to improve its service to existing and potential strategic partners in Japan.

Smart card technology short course offering to universities in Hong Kong and the Philippines

ACS provided a two-day smart card technology training to the Information Technology Services Centre (ITSC) of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). ACS professionals also offered a smart card technology elective course to the Software Technology Department of the De La Salle University (DLSU) Manila, one of the top universities in the Philippines.

Achievement of the FIPS 201 certification for ACR3801

The ACR3801 Smart Card Reader has been certified to conform to the Federal Information Processing Standards Publication 201 (FIPS 201) certification. This is a requirement set by the Government Services Administration (GSA) for devices used in smart card solutions to ensure the interoperability of the devices across various governmental facilities.

Launch of ACR122U, the world's first CCID-compliant NFC Reader

ACS launched the ACR122U NFC Contactless Smart Card Reader, which is the world's first NFC card reader that is compliant with the CCID standard.  Developed based on the 13.56MHz RFID technology, ACR122U supports not only MiFare and ISO 14443 A and B cards, but also NFC and FeliCa contactless technologies that propel current innovative applications as Hong Kong’s Octopus and Singapore’s EZ-Link automatic fare collection systems.

Selection as security provider for the 2008 Beijing Olympics

Partnering with Artemis Solutions Group (ASG), ACS participated in the security enhancement project set up by the World Olympians Association (WOA) to secure the events in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. ACS provided ACOS3 Microcontroller Smart Cards that were issued with around 4,000 credentials, as well as ACR88 Handheld PIN-Pad Readers that were used to read the smart cards and verify the identity of authorized guests.

Participation in an e-Taxation project in Nigeria

ACS supplied over 500,000 ACOS3 smart cards for a Nigerian e-Taxation progran initiated by the Lagos State Government. The use of the smart cards strengthened the program’s security level, and offered remedies for tax evasion, falsification of tax clearance certificates and loss of tax revenue.

Participation in an e-Taxation project in China

ACS has been providing over 150,000 units of the ACR38 smart card reader to an e-Taxation project in Guangzhou, China since 2008. With ACR38, taxpayers in Guangzhou can easily and securely perform tax-related transactions online, eliminating the need for them to make personal visits to tax offices.

Participation in an online home banking project in Korea

ACS supplied over 100,000 units of ACR38U smart card readers to support a Korean home banking project, which offered home-based ATM services to enable subscribers to transfer money, check balances and transaction records via a Voice-Over-Internet-Protocol (VOIP) capable phone.  

Selection as provider of ACR122 NFC readers for Hong Kong's Octopus card

ACS was again chosen by PCCW, one of Hong Kong's largest telecom companies, to make the ACR122 NFC Contactless Smart Card Reader available for its multimedia Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone project. With ACR122 connected to the multimedia VoIP phone, Octopus card holders can read their card balance and ten most recent transactions at home with no PC required.
